Leadership

Dante Malagrinò
Co-Founder, President & CEO

Born and raised in Italy, Dante is the co-founder and CEO of Embrane, where he leads and inspires the team to turn the company’s vision into execution, drives the values and the culture that define the company, and sometimes stocks the break-room.

His professional life before that is pretty simple: a little over 10 years at Cisco.  He was part of one of the most successful teams at Cisco, building the Catalyst 6500 family of switches. He later became part of the founding team of Andiamo, a spin-off that Cisco created to enter and disrupt the storage networking market.

More recently, he led the worldwide marketing campaign for Cisco’s Data Center 3.0 strategy.  While at Cisco he wore several hats: engineer, product manager, marketing manager and sales manager.  He even spent three years in Europe, evangelizing Cisco’s Data Center story to the market.

Dante holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and several patents in the areas of networking, storage and data center infrastructure. He also has experience as spokesperson with press, analysts and investors and he represented Cisco in several official industry organizations, such as SNIA Europe.

When he is not thinking about how to power the agile network, Dante enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and cooking homemade pizza from scratch.

Marco Di Benedetto
Co-Founder, CTO

Born and raised in Italy, Marco was always looking to do or create something new.  It’s that mentality that has driven Marco throughout his career, and it’s what led Marco to co-found Embrane.  As the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Marco is responsible for the vision and execution of creating the industry’s first distributed software platform for virtual network services.

He has over 13 years of experience in the networking industry. He spent eight years in software development, starting at Cisco with the Catalyst 6000 product line, where he architected the software infrastructure for high availability and created enhancements to the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) that are now considered table stakes of any implementation (among others, IEEE 802.1s, Root Guard and Loop Guard).

As a member of the founding team of Andiamo Systems, he architected SAN-OS, the Operating System for the MDS platform, now re-branded as NX-OS and used as the primary data center operating system on Cisco Nexus devices.

After one year as Network Consulting Engineer for Cisco in the Asia Pacific region, he joined Nuova Systems in 2007 as a senior member of the Technical Marketing team. In his role at Nuova and later at Cisco, Marco focused on the definition of a Cisco-wide technology roadmap for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), as well as on solutions for designing 10Gb/s Ethernet networks in the data center.

Marco earned a Masters in Computer Science Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and has a portfolio of 20 patents.  When he’s not working around the clock, guiding the Embrane R&D team, Marco enjoys reading subjects from history and foreign policy to cognitive sciences and linguistics.  Fond of his past experience in China, he also never misses the opportunity to learn more about the country’s language, culture, and history.
